Colima Standing Male Figure, ca. 100 B.C.–250 A.D.
Graceful standing male figure from the Colima culture of West Mexico, modeled in light terracotta with a calm, expressive face and elongated limbs. The figure wears a distinctive knotted headdress, ear ornaments, and a pendant necklace. The subtle traces of red pigment and the sculpted genital detail reflect both the ritual and human qualities central to Colima funerary art. Figures such as this were traditionally placed in shaft tombs to accompany the deceased into the afterlife.
