Danish Neolithic Flint Celts, ca. 3900–1700 BC
Fine pair of Danish Neolithic flint celts, beautifully shaped and polished to a smooth, tapering form with sharp working edges. The larger example displays a well-balanced lenticular section with a glossy patina and attractive mottled surface from ancient burial deposits; the smaller exhibits a slightly squarer profile with mineral accretions and fine knapping marks visible along the edges. These tools represent some of the earliest sophisticated stone workmanship in Northern Europe, likely used for woodworking, ritual, or as prestige implements during the Funnel Beaker Culture period.
Height: 15.2 cm, 20.3 cm.
Condition: Excellent for age, minor edge nicks and surface wear consistent with age and excavation.
Provenance: NYC private collection; ex Fortuna Fine Arts, New York.
