Ancient Greek Oinochoe, circa 7th Century B.C.
An Ancient Greek Italo-Geometric pottery oinochoe with trefoil lip and conjoined rib handle, the ovoid body tapering to a ring foot. Decorated in black slip with vertical rays at the neck and encircling bands of varying width, with birds in the main register. Height 19.5 cm, width 14 cm.
Condition: Very good considering material and age, age-related wear.
Provenance: Collection of Gabriele and Wolfgang Leiner, and thence by descent. Acquired from Arbeit Auction, lot 260, for 360 Deutschmark. Gabriele and Wolfgang Leiner are known for their historical research and editorial work on Württemberg history, including their edition of Gottfried Tobias Ritter’s Stuttgarter Tagebuch 1791.
